$240,000 Construction Accident Settlement

While working at an illegal construction site, the client was seriously injured when he fell from the raised bucket of a backhoe being operated by a homeowner acting as his own general contractor.

The client is a twenty-seven year old man who worked as a part-time construction laborer. The property owners, who were serving as their own general contractors, chose not to obtain building permits for an addition they were building at their home. On the day of the accident, the homeowners had hired workers, including the client, to perform construction tasks and roofing relative to a renovation and improvement of a pool house complex and pool area in the rear of the homeowners' property. To reach to roof, the homeowner had the workers climb into a backhoe's bucket. The homeowner operated the backhoe himself in an improper manner causing the client to fall approximately 30 feet, landing face first on the ground but also striking a part of the backhoe with his head and face. The client's injuries included severe head laceration, concussion and post traumatic brain injuries, medical treatment and permanent scarring and deformity in his face and head. The client was in treatment for 6 months and then was cleared by his neurologist.

Our firm obtained payment for medical treatment in addition to the settlement of $240,000.00.
